This is a proposal for a rethinking of the island of Manhattan, by inserting heavy agriculture and infrastructure into the urban realm. After researching large scale utopian/dystopian projects of Constant, Archigram, Lebbeus Woods, Archizoom, Yona Friedman, Cedric Price, and others, my project proposes an architectural vision of Manhattan, suggesting juxtapositions of agriculture and the city. The building’s skin is an aperiodic combination of off-the-shelf components of greenhouse glass, curtain wall, and multiple sizes and configurations of glass and metal louvres, to express the changing interior program while providing the required type of interior light. Towers and spanning structures function as an integrated water tower system, replacing the rooftop towers nearby, and concentrating disposal and filtration.
